ASTOVEBOAT

New Bedford

Bass- low like a fog horn. Drums- churning hits to a rusty fifty-five gallon oil can. Morse code blares below the surface, never stopping. Songs are all about the olde-worldly pursuit of whaling. This is no June of ’44 song cycle, but rather an ugly journey filled with drugged out sailors, mis-shapen sea beasts and a desire to kill that damned white whale.

Astoveboat features Dale Cunningham on 55 gallon and washboard, formerly of glazed baby. Tom Coucci plays bass. The band has toured extensively from their homebase of New Bedford, Massachusetts. When the album was recorded they relocated to the seaport of Providence, RI. Although the band is no longer active, this CD stands as a monument to our whaling heritage…and rocks your boat out of the water.

This record lays on the gloom like a fog. Astoveboat kick up some serious foam with the only company being the Swans, but with some more metallic moments.
