We all watched as Diddy took two seasons of ‘Making The Band 3’ to whip the five ladies of Danity Kane into shape and ultimately prepare them for stardom. They emerged in 2006 with their self-titled debut, ‘Danity Kane’. The album, which yielded such songs as “Show Stopper,” “Sleep On It,” and “Ride For You” sold nearly 90, 000 units in it’s first day of release and eventually achieved RIAA platinum certification for sales exceeding over one million units.
The ladies have all dealt with personal issues such as a car accident in October 2006 in which they were all injured, rumors of the members fighting with each other, and the famous break-up rumor since the release of their first album. Now Dawn, Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon, and Aundrea are back with their sophomore release, ‘Welcome To The Dollhouse’. This album, which was recorded during the filming of ‘Making The Band 4’, features productions from Danja, Bryan Michael Cox, Seven Aurelius (LL Cool J, Ashanti, and Vanessa Carlton), and The Stereotypes (Ne-Yo and Omarion). The intro track, “Welcome To The Dollhouse” features Diddy telling the story of five little girls who wanted to make music and blends on into the upbeat dance track “Bad Girl” featuring Missy Elliott.
As it combines both R&B and Pop music together, ‘Welcome To The Dollhouse’ showcases the vocal talents of all five members as well as the growth and maturity of the group itself. The first single, “Damaged” is among one of the best tracks and is already a top 10 hit on iTunes as well as various other radio outlets. The girls shake it up and have some fun with tracks such as “2 Of You,” “Pretty Boy,” “Sucka For Love,” and “Lights Out.” They slow it down with mellows grooves like “Ecstasy” with Rick Ross, “Poetry,” and my personal favorite “Is Anybody Listening.” The album also contains three interlude tracks, the sexy “Strip Tease,” and a hidden track, “Ain’t Going.”
Overall you will experience a variety of music from shakin’ it in the club to chillin’ with your baby while listening to this album. This is an excellent second effort and a worthy purchase.
