Imagine yourself in a mystical-trance watching a performance by (arguably) one of the greatest entertainers to touch the stage in the 21st century and you’ll be amazed to find out that you’re not watching Michael Jackson –the “King of Pop”; your infact watching R&B newcomer Ne-Yo.
In spite of his legal woes, Grammy Award winning R&B singer Ne-Yo has culminated various aspects of music entertainment all into one night, one event and one performance. The night was filled with an emotional- gripping acoustic performance by Ne-Yo and friends; a dinner experience infused with sheer elegance of a top-tier five star restaurant.
On the eve of Valentine’s Day (Feb.13), Ne-Yo, along with his celebrity counterparts unveiled the official launch of R&B Live’Atlanta Edition hosted at the cosmopolitan-chic restaurant Justin’s in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. As the evening is unveailed, its being hosted by Compound Entertainment, J Erving Group, Mute, and First Class Entertainment.
“We just want to bring R&B music back to its purest form,” said Ne-Yo. “No bells and whistles, just simply pouring your soul out on stage like soul music was intended to be.”
Ne-Yo along with Hennessy Cognac and the organizers of the New York edition of R&B Live (First Class Entertainment, J.Erving Group, Compound Entertainment) traveled down to Atlanta for a dynamic new addition to the already flourishing music scene.
“I respect what Ne-Yo’s doing for R&B music, the dude is a hard-worker,” said Chaka Zulu, DTP Records. “We have an entire DTP R&B Live edition with Ne-Yo in New York coming up real soon.”
Cheri Dennis, “Goddess of Bad Boy (Records)” took the stage looking as ‘swanky’ as she wants to look in her royal-metallic fitted dress; silver diamond crusted purse accented with silver stilettos. If you never seen her perform before, she draws you in with her soft voice and pleasant demeanor. Once you begin to hear her sing, she belts out a strong melodic tone that will have you marveled in bewilderment.
“I love singing at the New York R&B Live and the Atlanta edition,” said Cheri Dennis. “The only difference in the two is that New York edition is gritty and Atlanta’s is more upscale.”
After a host of songs sang by Dennis, the crowd was waiting in anticipation for Ne-Yo’s performance. Celebrities who came out to join in launch was music A-lister’s ranging from, R&B singer Sammie, Jimmy Cozier, DTP’s Chaka Zulu, Bobby Valentino and DTP Record’s new comer LeLe, Tameka Foster-Raymond, Universal Records artist London, Interscope Records Executive Kenon Johnson, D.Woods, Mannie (Keyshia Cole Manager), Dean Jackson (DTP), DJ Trauma, DJ Don Cannon, to list a few.
Serenaded by the soothing-sounds of DJ Mars spinning R&B-Soul through out the night, it was finally time for Ne-Yo to take the stage. With as much energy as he could muster, Ne-Yo ran on stage to greet his colleagues, fans, and media friends to welcome them out for an enjoyable experience.
When the crowd came to a slight murmur, Ne-Yo just burst out into song from his Grammy Award winning song, “Because of you.” Shortly thereafter other songs included “Go on Girl” and “So You Can Cry, a song that possibly will be on the R&B singer’s upcoming album. Watching Ne-Yo become so engulfed in his performance simply regulated the room with a sudden radiation of energy. The crowd gave Ne-Yo a standing ovation for his short –but tightly polished show.
“I can see myself going on tour with Ne-Yo”, said Bobby Valentino. “The energy that he brings, you already know he will bring excitement to a tour.”
The night ended inexplicably different with a small presentation from Hennessy Cognac. The executives of Hennessy Cognac presented Ne-Yo with a pleasant surprise of a Two-Hundred year old cognac valued at $4000.
