Paris Bennett: Princess P

When talented teen, Paris Bennett, appeared on the fifth season of American Idol in 2006, viewers and judges all agreed she had an amazing voice, but she hadn't managed to find herself as an artist. Unfortunately, that same opinion still holds true on Paris’ debut album, Princess P.
Although she’s still a teenager, Paris has an extremely developed vocal ability. She has come pretty far since her “Idol” days. Some of her song choices however, don’t really let you get the full picture.
On "All Hail the Princess," the Hip-Hop influenced track let’s Paris get her swagger on. The “in your face,” braggadocios track grabs your attention and may have you nodding your head a little bit.
Paris goes on to touch on a variety of subjects from the very personal "Daddy," where she vents about the pains of growing up not having her father around; to her remake of the pop classic "My Boyfriend's Back," which is a fun song that serves as a warning to every guy who would even think about disrespecting her.
The albums variety, however, cuts like a double edged sword. While most of the songs are mid to up-tempo, there is no clear theme or direction with the song choices. It almost seems like they’re just random thoughts that got worked into songs.
This album is not a “grown folks” album. The beats are mostly up-tempo, “snap music,” style of instrumentals. The songs, though random in order, are the thoughts and emotions of a young woman, expressed from the point of view of a young woman. Going through it is almost like going through that awkward phase we call puberty. There are points you’ll love and want to go back to, and there are points you’d want to forget ever happened. But overall, it’s worth experiencing at least once.
