After a five year hiatus Tank, the veteran singer/songwriter and possibly one of the most underrated artists of the last decade, is back in a big way with his new album, Sex, Love, & Pain.
The title is an accurate description of the album, which is a mix of mid to uptempo songs full of emotion. Though the subject matter is consistent to most R&B albums, Tank uses clever song concepts when discussing the breakups, make-ups, heart aches, and sex.
Though, it’s more than your standard collection of baby making music, it doesn’t leave fans wanting in that department. Songs like “My Body” and “When” will surely have you wanting to get close to someone. On the sentimental “My Heart” and the lead single, “Pleas Don’t Go” he effortlessly proves why he is one of the few R&B dudes that can actually sound like a man while talking about losing the one he loved. While the uptempo track, “I Love You” and the Timbaland remix of “I Love Them Girls” remind you of his versatility, at the same time, he gives fans something to ride to.
All and all, Sex, Love, & Pain is a pretty solid album. Fans who love good, “grown folks” R&B music will definitely want to get their hands on this one.
