Conquering a whirlwind of trials and tribulations driven by record company changes and lack of promotions, gold selling R&B artist Lloyd is back again with a new look and new sound for R&B music. If you ask the neighborhood bodega, corner store, pony keg about who the streets love they would cordially let you know that the street have no love for anyone. Barely legal , this R&B heart-throb has made it known that he’s capable of maneuvering through the tattered roads and frantic traffic to get to where he belong and that is the top of the R&B charts.
New Orleans, LA born and Atlanta, GA raised, Lloyd finds himself back again with the validation of a lifetime; an album called “Street Love.” We know what you’re thinking, now how can we have street love, shouldn’t that be the most oxymoronic thing in music. The answer is NO because that is where music has funneled top artists like R. Kelly, Jahiem and Tank to name a few, that have mastered the R&B thug persona.
Busting at the seams with album bangers like his first single, “You” featuring Hot Boy –Lil Wayne, the song lends an up-beat tantalizing, smooth- swag to a non traditional R&B club banger. With street lyrical assassins joining Lloyd like Lil Wayne, Nas and Andre 3000 it is hard to not keep a consistent flow on this album. These are veterans in the music game that add validity to an already budding star.
The beginning of the album starts off very slow but it should be credited to Lloyd’s new elevation on a successful second installment. Lloyd adds a gritty repetitious laid back swagger on most of the tracks on “Street Love;” playing up the women on this album that frequent the clubs. Songs like, “Get it Shawty” transfers a new look for Lloyd than most of his fans are used to. Speaking of new and unexpected material from this album is the track, “Incredible,” which is indeed a Michael Jackson-inspired song. If you listen closely you can hear a high falsetto murmured over this track. He offers so much innocence on this track it can easily remind you of your younger days sitting in front of the T.V. watching the Jackson Five-pure delight.
The young, fly and flashy generation has taken over on this new album but there is still room for the 80’s babies. Tracks like “Player’s Player” and “Take you Home,” will take you down memory lane to the old JODECI, TONI TONY TONE, & Mint condition days.
If you thinking about running to the CD store, uploading it to your iPod from iTunes or finding other means to hear this new one from Lloyd, know that you will enter a pleasurable experience of pure R&B bliss.
