Janet Jackson is taking on reality TV, the “Discipline” singer inked a deal with MTV this week to develop a music competition slated to tape over the summer.
According to Variety, the untitled project connected with 25/7 Productions has already begun casting for the series which will feature Jackson as she mentors a group of aspiring singers and dancers.
"It's really about finding who's the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher," said exec producer Dave Broome. "And we'll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn't typically find it from. We'll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show."
Instead of a traditional studio or soundstage, the show will take place in various street locales through the summer as Jackson prepares for her upcoming tour which kicks off September 10th.
Jackson’s new deal comes on the heels of a seemingly renewed relationship with MTV after the turbulent relationship between Jackson and the network over the infamous Superbowl halftime show that featured Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction.”
Over the last few months Jackson has been seen more often on MTV, having appeared on TRL to promote “Discipline” in February. She also starred in a series of shorts spoofing MTV series like "The Real World" as part of MTV's "52 Artists/52 Weeks Total MTV Takeover."
Producers are still ironing out the prize for the show’s winner - but it could relate to Jackson's “Rock Wit You” tour.
it is quite ashame that we as a minority people continue to have the "crab in the barrel" mentality. for most music lovers who grew up in the 80s thru the 90s we understand that artists have their highs and lows; that doesn't negate their ability to entertain or take away from their track record success. I love and respect Janet, she is a pop music icon in the same respect that Tina Turner and Patti Labelle are. Bottomline if mainstream America can support their own i.e. Madonna, Cher, and even NKOTB why can't we support our own?

Janet has been called alot of things ,but flat definately aint one of them.There's nothing wrong with Janet"s face If Tina Turner is going on tour again then why can't Janet?

Jealousy! "Misery Loves Company" for the poster above. Ms. Jackson does not have a flat behind. She's the perfect hour glass figure. even when she gaines weight she's still beautiful and keeps it right. She is such a strong postive black women. Look what type of negativity she has to deal with! But hey! She's sitting on millions and haters are no where close. All the world need's is love!
