Block Party Celebrates Life And Music of R&B Legend Gerald Levert

Family, friends, and fans gathered Friday (Jul 14) afternoon to celebrate the life and music of the late R&B singer Gerald Levert. Cleveland radio station 93.1 WZAK held the First Annual Gerald Levert Birthday Celebration and Fan Appreciation Block Party.

The birthday celebration continued Friday night with an elegant evening at Scripts Nightclub on the East Bank of the Flats.

The block party was held on Gerald Levert Way.

Gerald Levert died back in November of 2006 from an apparent heart attack at the age of 40. The Geauga County coroner said Friday (Oct. 9) that Levert's death was a result of an accident. In the report, the coroner confirmed that the Levert's death was caused by a combination of over-the-counter and prescription drugs, which was found in his system.

Gerald Levert is best known for hits like "I Swear" and "I'd Give Anything," as well as chart-toppers with the groups LeVert and LSG. More recent albums by Levert included 2002's "The G Spot" and 2004's "Do I Speak for the World."

Beyond singing, Levert's talents included songwriting and producing. His collaborations included projects with Barry White, Stephanie Mills, Teddy Pendergrass and the Winans.
