Two-time Grammy Award winning neo-soul songstress Jill Scott is going through divorce proceedings with her longtime lover and husband of five years Lyzel Williams, reports AOL’s BV Newswire.
The couple married in the fall of 2001 during a private Hawaiin ceremony, while they were on vacation.
Scott and Williams, a DJ and graphic artist, dated for seven years before they tied the knot.
"We went to the club, we hung out, we danced, we shook it up, we drank, we partied," she spoke of Williams in an interview with 'Launch' in 2001. "But we also went to carnivals, and we took long walks. I enjoyed his company so much. I'm glad I can say I'm such, so resounding blessed to have him in my life."
Williams was the source of inspiration for many of Scott’s music, notably the fan favorite “He Loves Me” - which has been sang onstage by Beyonce Knowles.
In other Jill Scott news, the singer will play Mma Ramotswe, one of the powerful women behind Alexander McCall Smith’s series of novels, which began with The No 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, in Precious Ramotswe. The TV series will be directed by Anthony Minghella, with scripts he wrote with Richard Curtis. Actor Idris Elba, who played the astute bad guy Stringer Bell in the HBO drama The Wire, will be in an episode that begins shooting in Botswana in the middle of next month.

Jill: Your spirituality is second to none, and it's good that you seem to have handled it in a most gracious manner. You did right for you and your fans--Let it out in the studio and show the world why you don't have to like Jill, but you will definately love her. I smell triple platinum coming. Your bar will again be filled with "Crown Royal" cause you are--SIMPLY DEVINE LIKE FINE WINE.
SONGSTRESS DIVA!! Well...Iknow you have a lot of fans I think it,s about time you got yourself a heater.
Keep the faith and I am looking towards your new album.
Peace In. (Not peace out that is why we do not have any peace left 'cause we keep let it it out)
PS. MujahidThabo
Jill be strong god has another plan keep him first at all times.Love your new music especially "come see me".
Jill: I regret to hear of your divorce however God always has a better plan. And from what I'm listening to right now (You go , Girl). I divorced 12 years ago but your music has brought me a more elevated peace. THANK YOU JILL - LUV YA 4/LIFE From SW Philly
Unfortunate to hear about the divorce - always a difficult situation for all involved. Heed the lessons learned - because both contribute to the success and failures in a relationship. Be honest about who you were at that time and continue to grow.
Namaste...
Could someone or V-Dubb scan and email me the article please as I do not have Essence magazine in my country...

I'm shocked... whatever went wrong! Poor Jilly...
YES!!!!! WOOOOOOO my ship has (errrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!!!!!) COME IN!!
Just got my September 2007 Essence and HAD to read it! So true that people come into our lives for a reason. Stay strong and know that God doesn't put more on us than we can bear. I'll be anxiously awaiting the release of The Real Thing!
I love your music Jill. Relationships may come and go but Jesus real. You will find that happiness just keep doing what you love. Peace
I love the comment that Michelle made that "people come into our lives for a reason, and sometimes for a season" and the comment by Shawn that basically states your music notoriety was a result of your husband, but God will allow your fame to endure. Your are BEAUTIFUL. I too have had to think about such proceedings, because you realize you can love a person, but you can't live with them or get the love and respect you desire from them. It is definitely a hard decision. STAY STRONG SISTA.
Like many strong black women, it takes a special someone to keep her balanced emotionally, secure and motivated. As one motivated you to write the type of music that brought you notoriety, God will keep you inspired to bring your talent through. I'm a huge fan of your music from days of your debut at the House of Blues in Chicago.
Marriage can be beautiful things happen move forward and thank God for your experiences love ya and support you!!
Jill, keep your head up gurl and remember that even this doesn't have to be a bad thing. People come into our lives for a reason, and sometimes for a season. Just redefine the relationship and be better because of it. Stay strong and beautiful. God bless.
This is really sad to hear. I wish Jill the best. I hope it doesnt effect her music and writing. Since so much was based on her relationship with her husband.
I love you JS. I'm so sorry to hear about your divorce. It was evident in your music that you truly loved your husband. However, life throws us curves, it's up to us to find the best way to manuever around them.
God Bless you Jill; keep keepin' it real!
W H A T ? I thought JS waited in between her 1st album so she could devote her time to her marriage. I', sorry to hear she is divorcing.
