Fantasia Barrino is heading to the big screen. The “I’m Doin’ Me” hitmaker has been summoned to play famed gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in a new biopic. The biopic, based on Jules Schwerin’s 1993 book Got To Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel, is currently in pre-production.

Mahalia Jackson, born in New Orleans, LA in 1911, is known to be one of the best vocalists of all time and the first gospel singer to ever perform at Carnegie Hall. She also used her influence to support the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s.

According to the New York Post, the film, endorsed by Jackson, has a $23.9 million dollar budget and Fantasia has a deal that will get her a percentage of the film’s box office gross.

Barrino portrayed herself in her 2006 biopic, the Lifetime Channel’s ‘Life Is Not a Fairy Tale’ and earned a 2007 Theater World Award for her performance in The Color Purple on Broadway.

The world of entertainment is buzzing with news that Fantasia has been tapped to play gospel great Mahalia Jackson in a new biopic. Already known for her powerful singing voice and dynamic stage presence, the star will now be able to showcase her acting chops as she takes on this iconic role. This film promises to be an inspiring celebration of one of music’s greatest voices.

Fantasia first burst onto the scene when she won season three of American Idol and soon established herself as a popular R&B singer with hit singles like “When I See U” and “Lose To Win.” She later earned critical acclaim for her Broadway roles in productions such as After Midnight and The Color Purple. Now fans around the world are looking forward to seeing Fantasia take on yet another challenge: portraying legendary gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.

Mahalia Jackson was one of the most beloved singers of all time, whose music inspired generations worldwide with its uplifting spiritual messages. It will no doubt be a daunting task for Fantasia to recreate this magical spirit onscreen, but if anyone can do it justice, it’s definitely her! We can’t wait to see what wonders this talented artist brings us next!

Background Of Mahalia Jackson

Mahalia Jackson was a legendary gospel singer and civil rights activist. She had an incredible life story, beginning in New Orleans before she moved to Chicago at the age of five. Mahalia’s mother died when she was seven years old, leaving her with no choice but to take care of her siblings and work odd jobs for money. Despite these hardships, Mahalia found solace in music by singing in church choirs from a young age.

Her talent quickly propelled her into the public eye during the 1940s and ’50s as one of the greatest gospel singers ever known. Part of that success included appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and performances alongside Martin Luther King Jr., where she sang “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” while he gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. Mahalia also used her platform to fight against racism through activism and philanthropy—her commitment to equality setting an example for generations afterward.

Today, Mahalia is remembered not only as one of America’s most influential vocalists, but also as someone who dedicated their life to making this world better for everyone around them. It is fitting then that a new biopic has been announced about her life; Fantasia will play the role of Mahalia Jackson, bringing audiences closer to understanding what made such an iconic figure so special.

Details Of The Upcoming Biopic

The upcoming biopic of Mahalia Jackson, starring Fantasia as the titular character, is sure to be an incredible film. Produced by Grammy-winning producer T Bone Burnett and directed by Todd Black (who has worked on films such as The Pursuit of Happyness and Seven Pounds), this movie promises to tell a compelling story about one of America’s most influential vocalists.

The producers have also revealed that they are aiming for authenticity in their production—utilizing original recordings from Mahalia’s own catalog along with newly recorded songs from today’s gospel singers. This combination will truly bring viewers closer to understanding who she was and what made her music so special.

Additionally, the movie will feature other iconic figures from the civil rights movement such as Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., Coretta Scott King, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and more. It should be a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come since then but without forgetting those who helped us get here. With all these elements coming together, it looks like audiences can look forward to a captivating film that honors Mahalia Jackson’s legacy while introducing new generations to her inspiring life story.

Conclusion

The biopic of the great Mahalia Jackson, starring Fantasia, is sure to be an amazing movie. She was a powerful force in gospel music and her story deserves to be told. I’m excited for what this film will bring – it’s clear that there has been plenty of time spent researching and preparing for it.

Fantasia is perfect for the role, as she herself has deep roots in gospel music. It’s excellent to see someone with such natural talent being chosen to portray one of the greatest voices in American history. This movie could prove to be inspirational on many levels, showing us not only how far we’ve come but also inspiring us all to continue striving for greatness ourselves.

I can’t wait for the release of this highly anticipated biopic! With Fantasia at its lead, it promises to be a captivating journey into the life of Mahalia Jackson and her incredible impact on modern day music. We’ll finally get a chance to experience more about who she was, where she came from and how influential her legacy still remains today.
