Jazmine Sullivan One of R&B's top talents may be putting her craft to the side for a while. Multi-Grammy nominated singer Jazmine Sullivan announced on Twitter Sunday (Jan 2.) that she was taking a break from music to figure herself out.

“I’m making an official announcement that I am taking a break from music,” Sullivan tweeted. “I’m trying to figure out who I am…w/out a [mic], paper or pen.”

We are not sure what sparked the sudden change of love for her craft but it seems like Ms. Sullivan is dealing with some professional or personal battles.

"I promised myself when it wasn’t fun anymore I wouldn’t do it. And here I am,” Sullivan shared with followers. “I’m not saying I won’t ever sing again in my life becuz I don’t believe that. But in this moment...[right] now…I got some things to figure out. I love u all and appreciate u soooooo much. [You] have no idea how much u’ve inspired me and fed my ego. But the truth is that I have to believe in me whether you all do or not. And that’s what I’m lookin for. That belief in myself. Me. I. I love us. Thanks for being here for me and riding with me on this journey. Let us continue."

After all was said and done, the tweets were deleted.

Jazmine Sullivan has received high praises from peers, veterans, and music insiders since her break-through debut album ‘Fearless.’ In early December 2010, Billboard honored Sullivan as the 'Rising Star' for 2010 and to date she has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards and various other accolades.

Her latest album, ‘Love Me Back,’ debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with 55,648 copies sold. The album was again met with high praises but saw little promotional help from her record label J Records.

Developing…

Side Note: If this is actually true, we hope Ms. Sullivan finds herself very soon because there are still a lot of fans supporting good music.

J Records is not the issue or anyone else, but Jazmine Sullivan. Her musical idol Stevie Wonder understands, I'm sure. In my view, her soul belies her actual image. Leave her be. She knows what she is doing.

  2. Courtney says:

Thank you for bearing some of your soul to us Miss Sullivan and inspiring us in the process. You did great and beyond our expectations. The best to you, the best for you Miss Sullivan!

  3. Courtney says:

Commend her for her courage to pause. Do not ridicule her simply because she does not meet your expectations. Music is not the staff of life. Even if it were you still would not have the right to judge her.

  4. Courtney says:

It can't have been easy for her. Listen to her sing and you know she loves expressing herself through music. She may start writing poetry that could lay the basis for future albums. Who knows?

  5. Courtney says:

Hey, she may never sing for us again and take a completely (necessary) different direction. On the other hand, she may eventually come back and shut everybody up, with perhaps non-adulterous lyrics. I completely respect her and any balanced human being will for her stance.

  6. Courtney English says:

See, she she's not on drugs blind to her internal messages. Fortunately J Records are not as influential as some would like. If they were then perhaps us fans would watch as Jazmine sung herself to nought.

  7. Courtney says:

The difference between Jazmine and other artists, who have continued writing and singing throughout those periods in their lives, is that Jazmine is completely conscience of her emotional needs and conscientiously chooses to step back and address them.

  8. Courtney says:

I used to write songs and sing seriously and so I can completely relate to Jazmine taking time out to discover what she needs to.

  9. Courtney says:

You could be an artist. Then again you may not be. I respect Jazmine utterly and I will also commend and applaud her as her music and lyrics have moved my heart (Lions/Tigers ect). That is because she sings from her heart.
