Kelly Rowland Even in death jazz icon and actress Lena Horne continues to inspire a new generation of women who, thanks in part to her struggle and achievements, have and will be able to achieve their dreams.

Touched by Horne, three of today's top R&B recording stars took to the net with statements Monday, May 10, just hours after her death.

Kelly Rowland, currently working on her third studio album, was one of the first to issue a statement, telling VIBE "Lena Horne is the reason that I, along with many others of my generation, have had so many opportunities in our lives. Her impact on the world cannot be measured and she will be missed. I will keep her family and friends in my prayers."

Recognizing Horne for essentially paving the way for herself and others, Keri Hilson joined Kelly Rowland in suggesting that those who are unfamiliar with her legacy take time out to view and read about her struggles and achievements, including a deal with MGM Studios that made her the first black actress to land an extensive Hollywood movie contract.

"Rest In Peace, Lena Horne," Hilson wrote on Twitter. "Youngins please google! A pioneer for Black Hollywood."

Often recognized for presenting an element of "class" and elegance, Lena Horne also inspired Ciara.

"Lena Horne truly epitomized the words class, style, glamour and priceless," Ciara said Monday. "She blazed a trail for me and so many others. She will truly be missed but her legacy will never be forgotten!"
