Trey Songz Is Trey Songz the new King of R&B ?

According to US Magazine, the chart-topping talent is on top of his game this year -- to which Songz says "it's been a long time coming".

"Hopefully I will continue to work as hard and get as much recognition if not, more," Songz went on to tell the magazine.

While Songz took aim at R&B veteran R. Kelly last year, he is in fact thankful for comparisons to fellow R&B heavyweight Usher.

Admitting that Usher will "always" have "a spot," Songz says he's just here to make his mark.

"Usher is always going to have his spot in the game. As far as I'm concerned, I'm here to make my mark," Songz tells US (watch video below). "Actually I've had talks with Usher where he's given me advice. We've talked about a lot of things".

Songz will follow Usher on the road to the Grammy's this weekend. He is nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album, stemming from the 2009 effort "Ready".

Why y'all trippin'? Comparisons to Usher & Kelz have been made since day one he stepped in on the game. He is compared to Kelz because he SOUNDS like him, period. So I def. agree with Paul from India. Also, he is as charismatic as Usher, and twice as fine, so therefore the comparison. MzGoodBadGirl, that was the most INaccurate analysis of Trey's music I have ever had the misfortune to read, his music is not for 'tennyboppers', he has music for everybody, lemme say that again, HIS MUSIC IS FOR EVERYBODY! If you don't like him go chugg a brick, plus he is giving Sammie some pointers if you don't know.

  2. osocute25 says:

First of usher is so over Trey Songz is here and he's not going anywhere. He is the new face of RnB and thats all I have to say.

  3. bbrooks says:

I feel that Trey is very talented with his vocals...but c'mon now...the next Usher? Well whatever you wanna call it, he is not that. Usher is the best out there and should not be compared to. Therefore Trey Songz is not the King of RnB and will not be. Usher has the crown. Peace!

  4. MzGoodBadGirl says:

OMG, one semi successful cd and all the comparisons start. trey havent sold 5% of the cds RKelly or Usher have sold. Theres no comparisons. Wait did trey cd go platinum or gold for that matter? Years from now, people will still play RKelly and Usher cds. trey will just be a memory. his music is for teeny boppers, he have no substance in his music at all. he so need to bring something new to the table. he need to take notes from Sammie and step his vocal game up. Later this year when Sammie release his cd, people will really see what talent is. Sammie is a beast with his vocal skills and people sleep on his skills.

  5. PAUL from India says:

i dont know why u open your websites to bring problems among people. Because of one album u r making comparison betweeen usher and Trey? and sometime R.kelly is included? please! be smart, i really love music and its a shame. Trey is doing well nobody can deny, but its a big absurd to ask questions like this! u people r really ungrateful. as human beings we must give respect to everyone. Trey will never be Up to R.kelly, its almost impossible. kells has done all necessary things for RnB nothing he left, now u say: is TRey new king? i dont know why u use to say such offense! im a RNb fan, and i respect every singer. Dont be egoist, i know that u people r not giving that much respect to him because of his personal life, but make sure that every african here in india is singing his new Album untitled, we need to be true let our prouds apart,he still doing well, there is only one king for each thing. Kells Is The Father of RNb. Thanks God for bringing a very talented person to the earth.

  6. Kennedy says:

This is a pretty good interview, Trey is always so humble and I hope he will continue to get the recognition that he deserves...Ready is a great album. But with that being said, why do interviewers always bring up the comparisons between artists, like what are they supposed to say, I'm sure they appreciate the recognition but is it even necessary to do. I don't think Trey or any artist want to be the next anybody. He like Chris Brown and Usher wants to do his own ('Trey') thing and be known for that and not for stepping into someone else’s spotlight. There's only gonna be one Michael Jackson, one R Kelly, one Usher, one CB and so on... They each bring something unique about themselves to their music, so why can't we just enjoy them for that and not play the “this one is better than that one” game.
