Michael Jackson's Thriller First Music Video To Receive Film Registry Honor

Michael Jackson's unforgettable and groundbreaking music video "Thriller" has found a new home.
The 1983 music video, directed by John Landis, is one of 25 films inducted for preservation at the 2009 National Film Registry of the Library of Congress Wednesday.
Resting amongst a bevy of the nation's most revered films and sound recordings, Jackson's "Thriller" is also the first music video to be inducted into the registry.
"Because of the way the recording industry is evolving and changing, we thought it would be good to go back to the development of an earlier seismic shift, which was the development of the music video," Steve Leggett, coordinator of the National Film Preservation Board says of the decision to induct the music video.
