Jennifer Hudson Talks 'Personal' ABC Special

When Jennifer Hudson's anticipated Holiday special airs on ABC Monday, you will see more than Hudson belting classics and revisiting Chicago landmarks -- you'll see family and unity.

"The first thing you do for the holidays is go back home, so I went back home, and the next thing you do is spend it with all of your family and your friends in those familiar places," Hudson says of her return to Chicago in the ABC special 'Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home For Christmas".

Of all opportunities presented, Hudson says going home for the Holidays is essential and personal when it comes down to her own family, including her son, David.

"That's why I chose to go back home and share it and make it personal," Hudson told PEOPLE. "I just want to make it (Christmas) as exciting and fun for him as it was for me. And I want him to have this feeling each time this time of year comes around. Whatever that is, that's what I want to make my tradition."

'Jennifer Hudson: I'll Be Home For Christmas" airs Monday, December 14 at 8pm ET on ABC.
