Music triumphed over controversy when a stellar six nominations were revealed for Kanye West at Wednesday’s Grammy Nominations special. While West is missing from the Best Rap Album category, the rapper pulled off a nomination for Best Rap Performance By A Duo or Group for his “808s & Heartbreak” single “Amazing”. Learning of his nominations with the world Wednesday, West escaped backlash from the audience except for a sly remark from soul legend Smokey Robinson during the anticipated Grammy Nominations Special airing on CBS. Revealing a nomination for Taylor Swift, Robinson joked, “Don’t worry Taylor, Kanye West is not here” – referencing the much-discussed on stage rant at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in September. Nonetheless, West had the last laugh when five other nominations were revealed, spawning from his work on the hit singles “Run This Town (Jay-Z),” “Knock You Down” (Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo) and “Ego” (Beyonce). With news of his nominations, one for his own effort, and the remainder for collaborative efforts, some are wondering whether or not West will show up when the show airs January 31 on CBS and perhaps whether he considers the nods a snub or not. Just over a year ago West was nominated for multiple Grammys — however, most of those nominations were from his own album. Rumors of West being banned from award shows and possibly facing a huge snub at the Grammys broke earlier this year when a number of influential insiders lambasted West for snatching the mic from Taylor Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards. As previously reported, West vowed to take a break from the music industry and is rumored to be at work on a new album.
