Whitney HoustonEveryone loves a comeback, especially when it comes to a woman and voice that has inspired today’s movers and shakers including Beyonce, Rihanna, Chrisette Michele, Jennifer Hudson, Keri Hilson and Jazmine Sullivan. In 2009 “The Voice,” otherwise known as Whitney Houston, showed up, showed out and rocked the stage with hits like “Million Dollar Bill” and “I Look To You”.

Anticipated for some time, Houston’s first album to be released in over five years and first effort to be released after a tabloid ridden marriage, drug abuse scandal and a bevy of troubles, finally came to head in August.

Simply singing “I Look To You,” a song written by sought after singer/songwriter R. Kelly, Houston returned to the stage putting smiles on the faces of fans who prayed, cried and anticipated her return. But no return is complete without a sit down to once and for all bury the past. Giving an exclusive two part interview with daytime diva Oprah Winfrey in September, Houston for the first and perhaps last time shed light on the often tabloid and blog frenzied marriage to Bobby Brown. But, it was Houston’s official testimony about a serious drug addiction and breaking point that really raised eyebrows. Admitting to use of cocaine and other drugs, Houston shocked even the most seasoned when she demonstrated how she would take her drugs and just how much was spent on them. Also sharing the story of a physical altercation with Bobby Brown, who reportedly spat on Houston and drew black eyes throughout their home at one time, Houston told Oprah she would have lost it all had it not been for a strong mother, God and the man that discovered her so many years ago – Clive Davis. With a renewed spirit, second chance granted and an album that has already been certified Gold in the United States, Houston is back on track and reportedly loving life and doing what she loves.

In late2009and into 2010 Houston is poised to strike a number of milestones, including a triumphant and award winning return to the American Music Awards (AMA International Artist Award) and the launch of her first world tour in nearly a decade. Like the diva says in the “I Look to You” favorite “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” “I survived my darkest hour… I was not built to break,” Houston went through the darkest period of her life, survived and in 2009 reclaimed her spot with “I Look To You”.

Whitney has given us good music for so long and we are so blessed to see her triumphant return. Just her presence on a stage is enough for a standing ovation. Keep giving us your best Whit...were routing for ya!

A highly anticipated return but the result was over-hyped and underperformed! The voice has surely changed. No one expected the perfect vocals of the BG era but no one expected the poor performance of GMA. Some comeback, her voice and presence doesnt exist. Where is she? No where to be seen. She is only 46 not 76 and still hiding it seems. Sounds like a person who was forced to produce a contractual album who didn't really want to do it nor promote it. Sad, everyone expected a solid comeback but was not to be. Appears the Grammy Academy agreed - zero grammy nods. Charlie Wilson and Sade were much more understated and less hyped but had more successful comebacks. Wilson scored 3 grammy nods for his 2009 effort and he's 56.

  3. Ann Miller says:

To have Whitney Houston return in such a powerful way has been such a blessing and a giant sigh of relief from all of her fans. I have heard many artists perform over the years--none ever touched me with their gift like Whitney. She is still magical. May God continue to bless Whitney and her family.

  4. Karan says:

Return of the THE GREATEST VOICE OF ALL TIME...it is THE best moment of the year. Whitney's all back, with an album that can easily be called one of the best works of the year :-)

  5. Jamal says:

She is so awesome!!! People are gonna hate on her because her comeback has been successful (read all the blogs about her) but who cares! Number one platinum album and a still great voice! Whitney was? Whitney is the voice!!!

  6. Trey says:

    I love her so much.

  7. Bruce Williams says:

The comeback of Whitney Houston has been the most watched celebrity comeback I can recall in life. You know you are special when you can have it all, and then throw it all away for drugs, sex and rock and roll, and then get a second chance from a gazillion die-hart fans and for God to restore enough of her golden voice to record a hit album! Whitney Houston is a blessing from God and has set and example from millions to learn from. There is none like her. She is simply the best!!!

  8. Warren says:

Whitney has been through a lot and has made it through the rain. She is there for a strong support system and a higher power of God. I think she has made it tremendously of a horrible time and comeback better than ever. I am fan of hers and believe she has stood the test of time and no matter of how good or bad things come her way is able to never let go of her faith.
