Janet Jackson Things appear to be looking up for "Make Me" singer Janet Jackson.

According to NY Daily News, Jackson has found a new recording home after a controversial departure from Island/Def Jam last year.

Kicking off the deal with the just released set "Number Ones," a collection of Jackson's major hits including "Scream" and "Feedback," sources say Jackson is banking on this new situation working out.

"A&M wants this CD to remind people how great Janet is," a source told NY Daily News after confirming that Jackson signed a deal with previous home A&M Records ("Rhythm Nation 1814"). "They're hoping it'll whet the public's appetite for Janet and pave the way for her new music."

As previously reported on Singersroom, Jackson has been working hard on a new album set for release in 2010.

Tapping noted producer Rodney Jerkins (Michael Jackson, Brandy), Jackson has already recorded a number of up tempo records.

Speaking with Singersroom  this fall, Jerkins commented on the forthcoming project, stating, "You know old school Janet is what we as fans knew her as, so we’re really trying to target that sound while still trying to mix it in with something new; be able to touch it [with] different world types of sound like: Brazilian music, Latin music, you know just different sounds from around the world; there’s one [record] that’s African inspired."

I like janets new jam. But what is up with her not working with jimmy? I hope they're still cool. Cuz he had the bombest of tracks, bass lines and EVERYTHING!! I ain't hatin' on rodney jerkins but he ain't got absolutely nothin' on jimmy and terry when it comes to makin' bomb-ass tracks. I hope she ain't kicked jimmy and terry to the curb!!!

i really believed she was gona bring it last time but there was only one good track on her last album, prob one of her best songs (feedback) but that failed to hit... i really think the music world has been unkind to her since her superbowl days... its really a shame coz shes truly a real artist but i think with michael passing people are more sympathetic with janet coz she was attention seeking like her other sister... Janet gave michael respect and didnt try to make his death all about her. i say go janet and this time really bring some good music... her new song is okay! definitely not her best song but then its only a fill in song for her no.1's!

Janet Jackson is AWESOME. Her performance at the AMA's were great. She is beautiful, talented, down to earth and one of the best performers EVER. I love her new song and the Number Ones CD. Her choice is her decision, she will do great at anything she does. Michael would be very proud.

  4. Sam pt.2 says:

continued...Rodney Jerkins is also at a questionable crossroad himself by producing lack-luster tracks for her Discipline album!..His previous songs with Brandy, Destiny's Child and Mary J.'s current song sound better than the "pop-ish Britney Spears, tat-tat-tat sounding light R&B joints" he has produced with Janet!..They both know they have to bring it this time, because I don't know how many more times the music-buying public is going to keep paying attention, for its seems like at least on the charts and on the radio they've forgotten about Janet!..I hope the greatest hits CD debuts high next week on the charts with all of last week's new release competition(50cent, Norah Jones, John Mayer, etc...).. With all of these questionable music choices, I still wish the best for our Queen of song & dance and look forward to her new movie, new book and the new album;minus Jimmy & Terry's wanted presence!

  5. Sam says:

I agree with Lasher below!..She is one of my all-time favorites, but "Make me" hasn't even charted on Billboard's Hot 100 as of yet and the song has been out for weeks now!..Signing with A&M is questionable because they didn't believe in her post-Rhythm Nation(8 mil units worldwide),.. for we know that they must have new executives since the 90's and hopefully they see her now as an icon!..They really need to explore why, "She cannot get airplay on ANY of the formats that she fits into", no R&B, no adult contemporary and especially no pop radio stations are playing Make Me or any of her previous songs with IDJ and Virgin, post Superbowl!!!

Yes! This needs to happen: Janet reaching the tops of the charts again with great new material. BUT thumbs down on her choice to do it with the help of Darkchild. J, it didnt work last time, did it? Somebody please get me Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis!!
