Rihanna Single Reflective of Icon Status ?

RihannaAccording to Rihanna producer Chuck Harmony, the singer's latest offering is that of a pop icon and should be looked at as such...

"'Russian Roulette' is definitely taking her to another level. I think she's a pop icon, so her music should reflect that," Harmony told MTV.

Harmony's statement comes just days after "Russian Roulette" stormed the net and radio, causing a near crash of Twitter and hitting #1 on search engines like Yahoo.

While Harmony's stance is simply that of a producer speaking his mind, it does come at at point where many are questioning the tempo and choice of the song.

As reported on Singersroom Wednesday, several music enthusiasts questioned the song choice, calling it "...a bad song for the first single".

According to Harmony however, "Russian Roulette" is indicative of Rihanna's growth as an artist.

"I think Rihanna has captured what her old fans are used to, as well as the growth of an artist. 'Russian Roulette,' to me, is a shining example of her growth and her artistic expression," says Harmony.

"Russian Roulette" will make its debut on the charts next week.

  3. tina says:

@yes it took beyonce 10 yearsto be where she is because she was in a group from the time she came out in 98 to 04, beyonce could have came out solo and had the sucess rihanna had since she came out in 05

  4. 1234 says:

through all of the ups and downs she is still giving it all that shes got. and shes is well on her way and her voice has really evolved.

  7. DIGZEE says:

RIHANNA POP ICON???? NO NO NO I DONT THINK SO... SHE ISNT YET AN ICON SHE IS LEARNING HOW TO SING BUT SHE IS NOT EVEN SINGING.....

  8. tanni says:

Rihanna is a big pop star .. But I was wishing that her music sound would be a little more Black!!! But maybe thats the direction her label wants to take her .. More international

  9. Shell says:

ICON.....Please, these people don't know what an icon is. Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Glady's Knight, and Mary J Blige are ICONS. There music has substance and people have tried to copy there styles for years. No one wants to be Rihanna.....she cannot even sing.

  10. lisa says:

Icon my ass. There are very few icons currently charting who are Black and Rhianna is not one of them- an Icon breaks down barriers, changes the game and create followers or clones. I would say right now leading the list is Whitney Houston #1 Icon, closely followed by Mariah- Bey still has a way to go and Rhianna is no where near Beys status. White female Icons who are charting now: Madonna, Bab Streisand, Celine Dion I rest my case.
