Matt there is no proff of that CHeck Riaa Babbara has out sold mariah whitney and madonna then it comes madonna then mariah then whitney...mariah has not done any trickery to her sells and she does has the most #1's when it comes to solo artist so get your facts right...... Reason noone is selling music like that anymore ....people are not buying music like they did in the 90's.

  7. Luno says:

It would seem Mariah Carey has become as much a slave to her own reinvention as she was to the formula that carried her through the '90s. Mimi was a breath of fresh air, E=MC2 seemed like a desperate attempt to recreate it, and while Imperfect Angel has its strengths, I agree with those who say she could have taken another year both to give the public time to want it and to make it something even more worthwhile. Music is still expensive, money is still tight for most of us. I won't buy any album right now unless I know it's bangin'. Carey & her label should be pleased it sold as well as it did in the first week. That's more units than most recording artists sell in a whole career.

  8. OK says:

Truth is we all downloaded it. THAT'S keeping it real Matt. I don't think she was going for a HITS HITS HITS album...I mean she says she was but this album is like Rainbow...that album isn't exactly chart friendly. Mimi and E=MC2 were. So the sales dropped.

  9. Matt says:

While I dont agree with everything you said, I must reiterate a couple of points. First, you are right- she is NOT the best selling female artist of all time (not even close actually) and she DOES manipulate sales. I know this cause I work in the industry. Mariah's own OFFICIAL press releases say she has sold 160 million albums, singles and videos. According Celine, Whitney and Madonna's OFFICIAL press releases, they have each sold more. It's just trickery from her fans and other supporters. Don't get me wrong, I really like a lot of her music and she is an amazing singer, but we have to keep it real!

  10. Ayla says:

Um...Barbra debuted at #1...Billboard has it at #1, Paramour at #2 and Mariah at #3.
