Gladys Knight admits to being apprehensive when it came time to appear as Wilma in Tyler Perry's latest picture, 'I Can Do Bad All By Myself'.
Sitting down with Perry during a special TBS presentation dubbed 'The Tyler Perry Show' Wednesday night, Knight told the director "I was scared".
Moving beyond the apprehension, Knight later thanked Perry for making sure she remained Wilma throughout her stint at his Atlanta based studio.
"This man is amazing as a director. He did not allow me to be Gladys Knight, he made me Wilma (character)," says Knight.
As previously reported on Singersroom, the Grammy-winner appears alongside Pastor Marvin Winans, Mary J. Blige and Taraji P. Henson in the flick, which opens in theaters Friday.

I love me some Gladys Knight!! She has been my #1 singer since I was 14 years old. I went to see I Can Do Bad, & I must say it was a very good movie. I wish Gladys would have done a little more gospel singing. I agree with Vicky, Gladys can still put on a damn good show, and she sounds just as good live as she does on her cds.
Who is Tyler Perry?
She is "The Empress of Soul" and is one of the most charismatic divas ever to be interviewed, has remained drug-free her entire career and can still put on one helluva live show! She doesn't receive her props from the entertainment industry as an icon and trailblazer, especially for you up and coming R&B starlets! Over her 5 decade long career, Ms. Knight has endured and survived threats by the KKK, personal health scare issues, survived several shaky-airplane flights for most of those decades and has personally gone toe-to-toe in verbal battles with some of the most cut-throat, mafia-styled music executives and you mean to tell me she is scared of a movie role! Please GMAB!
