Whitney Houston is not the only one thrilled with the debut of "I Look To You," which arrives at no.1 on Billboard's 200 Albums chart today. Longtime mentor and industry exec Clive Davis is calling this week's debut "surprising".
"It's surprising in view of the fact that she's had such incredible selling albums, but this is the biggest opening week Whitney's ever had," Davis tells ET.
Shattering negative reports, Houston's first album in several years debuts at no.1 with over 300,000 copies sold (Updated Total: 305,000 copies), reports HitsDailyDouble. Nonetheless, Clive Davis says it's all in response to the music.
"The kind of mail that we're getting all over the world in response to this album not only shows that Whitney's still got it, but … shows that she has newfound maturity and emotional power."
"I Look To You" is in stores and at digital retail now.

......If R Kelly's latest single with Keri Hilson doesn't crack the Top 10 within the next few weeks, it may indicate a wrap for him anyways! It's the 4th single off his much delayed and pushed back album due out next month, finally! The album may or may not do well! If not, then maybe it will be all that all he can do is write and produce songs for others and its not the first time for he is a great songwriter and producer of some major hits! All in all, congrats to Whitney on another No#1 album and to those who helped produced it, whether we like them or not!!!!

@lilkunta! Record labels having been going the 11 song route for the past few years! This is why they are able to charge $9.99 and under for the first week's release at most of the major retailers! Only the Hip-hop artists and a few country artists get 15 songs nowadays and most of them are lengthy interludes; another way of getting over on the consumer and cutting costs! Considering your thoughts on RKelly, you would be surprised and appalled at some of your favorite actors, artists, producers and songwriter's conduct in their personal lives and behind their velvet ropes! If fans and the general public alike, knew some of the activities and real personas of some of these celebrities, their would be far less movie goers, lesser concert-goers and even fewer gold and platinum albums! It's called "Drugs, Sex & Rock'nRoll" and that long-term industry cliche' is just the tip of the iceberg! Continued.....
I agree with lilkunta...Whitney and R Kelly will get nothing from me - If they wern't famous they would be in jail...I don't see why I should be paying anything to them...I'ma just download instead.
