Maxwell Values Struggle, Purpose Over Celebrity
Billboard chart-topping singer/songwriter Maxwell says his music is all about struggle, purpose and relating to others, not to make a quota or maintain his fame.
"I don’t get up in the morning just to make money. I’m not just trying to sell records to meet the quota and keep the house going or the car running and all those things," Maxwell tells Singersroom.
"I think it's much better for me to listen back to something and go wow -- there's a struggle there."
While Maxwell has to make a living from his music, which is going well considering his debut numbers of over 300k in the United States this week, he admits that you can never count on the words celebrity and fame.
In fact, Maxwell says it is "not just about maintaining my celebrity [whatever that is] or fame. Those things don’t really interest me. They come and go fast and you can’t hang your hat on something like that. You can definitely hang your hat on the songs you’ve written."
Maxwell's brand new album "Blacksummers'night" is in stores now featuring the singles "Pretty Wings" and "Bad Habits".
