When soulful singer Maxwell showed up without his signature locks, dating back to his debut album and songs like "Lifetime" and "Fortunate," it was shocking. To Maxwell however, the decision to change things up was very simple.
"You know I just wanted a fade so bad for a while. I just wanted to get lined up, go to the barber for a second, instead of waking up with my buckwheat or what was my hair before," Maxwell told Singersroom.
Despite the signature hair disappearing, Maxwell's music, buzz and fanbase has not been effected, something the "Pretty Wings" singer says is funny, even for fans at a recent signing of his new disc "Blacksummers'night" in New Orleans.
"It’s funny. When I was in
New Orleans I did some signings and met some really amazing people who buy and
wanted to get their record signed and you know, give me a handshake and say
hello and all those things. You get the occasional “Oh baby you need to grow your hair back” but I take it with love.
I don’t see it as though I’m not being accepted because all of a sudden I want
to have a fade," says Maxwell.
"I'm just happy that people are overlooking it, that my career wasn't built on a hairstyle."
Maxwell's new album, the first of a trilogy titled "Black summers'night," is in stores now.
Max with or without your hair, the music is what matters. The hair just showed that you've growned and wanted a change (personal) it's more for you than anyway else. I was personally impressed that you cut your hair for yourself and if I must say noticed your sharp facial features(nice). As far a hand full of people that said you wouldn't make it this time around, they didn't get your music years ago. Also like you said on the Oprah show you control your destiny. End note keep doing what your doing, and I missed your music when you were off the music scene. But you were never forgotten plus "lifetime" got me through a crazy time. Keep singing from your soul and making grown up music. love ya
Maxwell came to Louisville, KY July the 13th, he heated up the Palace. It was so steamy in there; it was like having hot heavy sex with your man. He was AWESOME. i AM LOOKING FORWARD FOR HIS RETURN. We love you Maxwell.......
The most talented singer of all time. He can hit any note and does it with style. I wish he would come to Los Angeles 2009 because I am there.....I love your new hair cut Maxwell. I love it that you are keeping it updated and in the moment. :)
