OMG some of you are about lame! Mariah bought her so-called #1 singles on Billboard by buying AIRPLAY. Say what ever you want about Madonna who has had far more #1 selling singles in the USA and the entire world than Mariah Carey ..Madonna has also sold over 350 million albums globally, no other artist has more #1 global singles than Madonna. If you look at the world chart top 10 artists of all time Madonna is #3 and with the exception of Whitney at #9 is the only woman in the top 10! Only the beatles and Elvis have out charted Madonna and they had far more albums and singles released Madonna has had only 13 albums! And she holds #3 and is expected to be #1 in a few years and they have 30 or more years of sales on Madonna! Mariah is not in the top 10 Payola based fake #1 singles are just a marketing ploy based on Mariahs concert grosses its not working to well for her is it?

Mariah has never been that great of a live performer and she has said over the years that she has really never liked touring! She is though, a "visual delight" who is a great vocalist! Millions of people are not continuing to spend their money on her records just for the hell of it! Duh! She is one of those artists that you don't have to like, but receives showbusiness respect because of her high sales numbers and work ethic! R&B sales are at an all-time low and I beleive that the R&B junk you mentioned will rebound this year with new music from Maxwell, Anita, D'Angelo, EnVogue, Gladys, Mary J. & Usher; so we don't have to go overseas to find or reclaim good R&B/soul music! Again, we will see what will be said when she goes #1, with more than likely, an R&B based song on top of the Hot 100!

Mariah No.1 only in the US.elsewhere she's nobody. atleast she can't put up a sell out show elsewhere.( I hope she has some live credibility in the US) This kind of R&B junk is good enough for American radio. The amount of No.1 hits in the US doesn't make an artist. It's the overall impact on the pop culture that counts. In this way Mariah not even close to The Beatles, Elvis, MJ or Madonna. Those four are the fab four.

@Dot below! I really don't think you, Dot, quite understand when we mention Elvis, The Beatles and the seriousness of Mariah overshadowing them! Both of their chart-topping hey days were at a time when our country was at the crest of the Civil Rights Movement! Artists such as Diana Ross, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Aretha could not be on the same stage with them(back doors, water fountains, etc..), although they sold just as many records back then! White-music lovers have kept their music alive for decades and have placed no other artists before their chosen 2 thoroughbreds; Elvis and the Beatles! Madonna, Barbara and Garth have come close, but they are still behind the "chosen" 2 artists! Elvis and The Beatles fans are NOT TO BE PLAYED WITH and for years they have let us and everybody in their way know that! Dot, you also need to watch Oprah's Legend's Ball to further educate yourself! For an African-American, R&B based singer to overshadow them, is iconic and historic!

I'm really looking forward 2 this next CD. Mariah is 1 of a handful of great singers who are able to still cross over to the mainstream where, let's face it most pop artist can't sing let alone sang worth a lick! Mariah comes up with the most creative album titles. I like the sound of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. When I first heard it, I thought it'll be a mid tempo album. Other creative titles she had were Emotions, Music Box, Daydream, Butterfly, Rainbow, Glitter, Charmbracelet, The Emancipation of Mimi, & E=MC2. Who can come up with creative titles like her? She's #1.

hello sam my friend you said it as always theres only a few of us sam i have to move around a lot because i surf all the time the angel of fairness and right, often critized and talked about because of my low english, typing talent but mariah is hot and she is all the things that you explained, i was shocked when i saw that nellie was the top selling artist of the decade and i just knew that jz had that sewed up i think it was on hip/ hollkywood and britney was one of the youngest on the line up she was #5 and eminum was #1 ahead of the beatles and mariah was mention, and something about the beatles and i am so glad that mariah is still making music it makes my day.

Mariah is one, number one hit song away from being the artist with the most #1 songs of all time, surpassing the Beatles and Elvis! This will probably happen soon and when it happens it will be headlines not only in the US, but across the world! Elvis and The Beatles, 2 of the biggest selling artists of all-time, have become permanent icons of music history and Mariah truimphing over them will be historic!
