Adam Lambert Defeated, Was It The 'Christian Vote' ?

After weeks of what some nearly deemed "The Adam Lambert Show," American Idol finalist Kris Allen pulled one of the biggest upsets in 'Idol' history taking home the title instead of Lambert!
"I'm sorry, I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy," a surprised Allen expressed after host Ryan Seacrest unveiled the final results.
Compared to Lambert, Allen appeared to be the more conservative choice that fans decided to send on to victory. However, everyone from Jamie Foxx to past Idol contestants had predicted Lambert for the win.
Could Kris and Lambert's words earlier this week have swayed votes ?
During a period where religion and values have been touted in mainstream news, specifically the debated Miss California USA controversy, Lambert backed up a statement made by Kris Allen that asked for votes to be based on "music" and not "religion and all that kind of stuff".
In fact, Lambert said: "It's about music. That's really important to keep in mind."
While congratulations are in order for Kris Allen, as proven in the past the title 'American Idol' does not guarantee success after the show.
In the words of Paul Stanley from Kiss, "Adam did win. So did Kris. Nobody lost tonight. These are two champions".

Adam deserved to win all the way, hands down. Kris can sing, but Kris needed to win. If Kris didn't win, his career would be in the trash. Adam would be famous no matter what, second or first!

I’m a devout Christian and mother of two music-loving boys, and I must ask: What is wrong with America? America’s vote for Kris Allen, or America’s vote against Adam Lambert, seems to be a hate vote against the various sectors of society that Adam appears to stand for. People lost respect of the fact that American Idol is a singing talent contest open to all -- straight or gay, Christian or Jewish, etc. Voters forgot that it is not a popularity contest for class of persons — neither a battle for coalition leadership nor a crusade for for religious revival. In Season 8, Kris demonstrated that he is a musician and an outstanding vocalist; but Adam consistently proved to be the amazingly innovative artist and the best singer, gifted with a powerful voice. Adam deserved to win. Kris, knowing this truth in his Christian heart, asserted in public that “Adam deserves this. I’m sorry…”. Adam Lambert is the true winner. Maybe I should also ask: What is wrong with Fox TV’s American Idol?

wtf.... adam should have won! kris is so not hot n i donno y gurlz even think he looks good. he actually sucks at singing and hez so annoying to watch! kris's ugky ass should have been kicked out of idol even before danny was bcuz danny can really sing too! wtf! I prefferred Kris's song choices and use of his vocals, Adams were undeniably awsome and had alot of range, but i didnt like the sound or his arrangements. I guess it's a case of mainstream people choosing a mainstream performer.
I believe that Adam should have won. I like Kris and I believe that he stayed true to himself the entire artist and stayed true to his style. With that being said, I feel that based on vocals, confidence, and star quality that Adam should have won hands down. But as we saw from Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, and Chris Daughtry that you don't have to win to be successful. We also saw from Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard that winners don't necessarily mean that you will have a successful career. I wish them both the best.
