Tyler Perry left Madea behind for his debut in Paramount's sci-fi prequel Star Trek Thursday, according to early box office reports the flick pulled in an estimated $7 million in just five hours !
'Star Trek,' also starring Zoe Saldana, officially opened in most theaters Friday but earned its $7 million boost through special "preview" performances at an estimated 3, 800 locations Thursday. While each location reported its estimated earnings between the hours of 7pm and midnight, sources say Thursday's preview numbers will be added on to the film's final and coveted Friday and weekend box office totals.
Star Trek is not alone in having box office success during a special "preview" Thursday. Last weeks top film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" pulled in an estimated $4.5 million during special Thursday screenings and later rang in a total of $85 million during its opening weekend.
Tyler Perry portrays Admiral Richard Barnett in the flick that chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.
