Kelly Rowland Former Destiny's Child starlet Kelly Rowland has reportedly been dropped from her recording contract at Columbia Records !

Rowland, known widely for her stint in the Multi-Platinum selling group Destiny's Child and charting solo career that included the hit singles "Like This" and "Dilemma," was dropped based upon fears that she was no longer "commercially viable" according to Britain's News of the World.

News of Rowland's departure from Columbia also follows the singer's much-talked-about split from long time manager Matthew Knowles who is also Beyonce's father.

In a release issued earlier this year, Rowland called the split "amicable" stating:

"Mathew Knowles has been a positive influence in my career. I have had great success under his guidance - both as a member of Destiny's Child and with my solo projects. Although we have decided to part ways professionally, the Knowles family and the entire Music World Entertainment team will always be my family."

Prior to today's news, Rowland was said to be working on a third album with new management. Her last album titled "Ms. Kelly" peaked at no. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

Speaking with Singersroom last year, Rowland expressed hopes to diversify her business dealings by working on projects outside of the music industry:

"I would like to write children’s books, and host my own daytime talk show. I think that would be so cool [to have my own talk show]."

In February, Rowland's dream came true through an exclusive co-hosting deal on BRAVO's forthcoming series "The Fashion Show".

  1. Whatever says:

Mathew Knowles is not God, he is not that powerful, I swear you people make him sooo great. Columbia Records is just like Def Jam, it drops artists if they aren't making money. And it wont promote you unless it knows it will receive their money back, in other words you have to sell yourself, then they will put money in you and sell you. Miss Kelly was not making money, and oy uhave to put blame on her and her so called supporters, who always fight for her on blogs and in the media yet they never buy her albums. I have both her albums, so I'm cool.

  2. Cazeliah says:

Woah! Mathew Knowles had something to do with it. I guess he was still upset she fired him that he had to teach her a lesson. I say Kelly should do Dancing With The Stars next season.
