The ex-wife of BET 'Sunday Best' host and Gospel recording artist BeBe Winans says she hopes to help others with her story, especially Christians who may choose to suffer through abuse rather than reach out for help.
Speaking hours after her ex-husband, Gospel-icon BeBe Winans was booked on charges of misdemeanor domestic assault, Debra Winans told Nashville's WSMV "When you're married to someone known all over the world, it has serious challenges".
BeBe and Debra Winans were reportedly married for 16 years before and divorced in 2003. The separated couple also have two children who were reportedly the subject of a verbal altercation that resulted in Winans allegedly pushing his ex-wife "to the ground".
Stating people of faith are held to a high standard, Winans went on to say "The power of God is real, but one thing he's not going to do is go against someone's will. We make choices".
BeBe Winans, who is currently hosting BET's American Idol-esque reality series 'Sunday Best,' had not released a statement at press time.

im glad u and cece winans got a new release album im a special to the family luv yall music
You keep the faith and know that God will never leave you nor forsake you!
sometimes its so easy to say a man should never hit a woman, like we shouldnt be killing people in iraq but God knows that sometimes these women are more than terrorists and there mouths are nothing but weapons of mass destruction, if there is nothing to check them in the law it will always result to men striking such women.
Bebe if you can read this, BE STRONG BRUTHA!! I have been following your music from you first began and I luv you and Cece dearly. I will keep you guys in prayer, pop will be missed.
Well, I think that it was blown out of wack. Please leave Bebe alone. He made a mistake and Debra should not have gone public with it. Am sure he did not intent to hurt her. But, knowing her, after a soft push, she just fell to the ground and started crying her head off!!!
Yes, Bebe is a Man of God. He is also human. I don't condone what he did, but everybody is quick to say "Oh he is a Man of God singing Gospel so he should no better." Him singing gospel doesn't have anything to do with it. This by no means will stop me from supporting Sunday Best. He was wrong - he knows he was wrong. We love people one day and they mess up and we condemn. Wow
I am a personal friend of Debra. She is a peaceful person, a loving mother and minister of the Gospel. She had no prior knowledge or hand in the press getting the story. He main concern was and is the welfare of her children. It was a very traumatic thing for their children to witness and that is her first priorty. She is standing on the Word of God and continuing to be a mother and fulfill her ministry engagements. She is a woman of dignity and integrity. Sometimes our faults have to come to the surface in order for us to deal with them and get the help we need in order to become a better person.
You are so right Josephine,..she has done it....he has fallen for it....and I wonder what his good friend Oprah has to say about all of this?....and....What are people now gonna be thinking about him while watching BET's Sunday Best????
A man of God like you Bebe, you should've known better then to hit a woman. It doesn't matter how she provoked you, as a man after God's own heart, you should have counted to ten and walked away. You must Always learned to walk away in these circumstances. Now, what! You're only human and you or others make mistakes. Yes! We do. In your situation it looks awful, cause a man should never hit a woman. It doesn't matter what she may have done to you. You're of God and yet should be setting an example Gospel music judge. Don't you think your Ex-wife is not trying to bring you down, because she's still very jealous at the fact that you two are no longer together? She wants to destroy your professional singing career & she knows what button to push & she has done it. Repent & move on. Please stay away from her or else it will happened again.
Alot of people are saying "Why ask why?" and "not to judge"...and so on and so on! Blogs like this one would not exist if everyone with internet-access didn't have an opionion about something in this world! What Bebe did was not right at all and you can say all you want about he desrves it, but think about the children first, for they are now prey to world-wide negative media attention..and why not protect them from that! You parents that comment on here would understand in that you would do everything you can to protect your child from TMZ cameras and major media photographers following their every move! They don't care anything about child protection laws when it comes to getting those photos in by press time or making that 6 o'clock news! Large metropolitan cities in the South have paparizzi too, that will stop at nothing to exploit her and their once private life! Let's continue to pray for them!
