Following in the steps of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse, R&B/pop singers Leona Lewis and Jazmine Sullivan could be on the verge of making the 2009 Grammy Awards Ladies Night !
Of course the songbirds have help from a few other ladies including Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Keyshia Cole and even Mary J. Blige, who at the end of the night may receive a massive Grammy boost.
One of the many categories dominated in sort of ‘dueling divas’ format is Best New Artist, a category where both Jazmine Sullivan and Brit-singers Adele and Duffy face off against 2008s seemingly unstoppable pop sensation The Jonas Brothers.
While the three songbirds are sort of ganging up on the Jonas Brothers, most industry critics are expecting a “Jonas” acceptance speech.
For Jazmine Sullivan and Jennifer Hudson there is much hope for a win in other categories – after all they’re each nominated in at least three categories.
Despite the competition they’ll each encounter in the R&B categories, including Best R&B song, Sullivan and Hudson could easily pull an upset against Hip Hop/Soul Veteran Mary J. Blige or crooners Ne-Yo, Raphael Saadiq and possibly Al Green.
One particular R&B category – Best R&B Song, is full of ‘girl power’.
In this particular category, R&B crooners Ne-Yo and Raheem DeVaughn face a tough battle as Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows;” Keyshia Cole’s “Heaven Sent;” and Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight;” (all top 10 R&B/Hip Hop Song hits) face their well appointed hits “Miss Independent” and “Customer” respectively.
While the aforementioned categories are worthy of much scrutiny, it is the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance spot that is every R&B fan’s category to watch and honestly a 'battle of the titans'. In Best Female R&B Vocal Performance you have Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Jazmine Sullivan with their respective singles “Me, Myself and I,” “Heaven Sent,” “Spotlight,” “Superwoman,” and “Need U Bad” facing each other !
Because that is way to difficult for us to call, we want to know what you think ....
