Charlie WilsonR&B veteran Charlie Wilson is back and ready to give all with "Uncle Charlie," the follow up to "Charlie, Last Name Wilson".

"I'm always going to give music all the energy I've got," says Wilson.

Wilson, often recognized as the frontman of the Gap Band, is coming out swinging with his second Jive Records album featuring the single "There Goes My Baby".

Written by Kenneth Babyface Edmonds and Calvin Richardson, "There Goes My Baby," the album's lead single, is already a top 10 hit.

If you ask Charlie Wilson, whose last album is nearing Gold-certification, about the key to staying in the music game, he'll say "control".

"I executive-produced my own record this time," Wilson told Reuters/Billboard.

"I also wrote a little. When my brothers and I had the Gap Band, we thought we were in control, but we got sideswiped by our label and others. Now I'm in control of my own destiny."

According to Wilson, "Uncle Charlie" features collaborative efforts with Justin Timberlake, Pagani, the Underdogs, Jamie Foxx and T-Pain.

Uncle Charlie is slated for release Feb. 17 via Jive.

EVERY TIME I hear Charlie Wilson's song "There Goes My Baby", I have to stop whatever I am doing and listen to him! Love that song, Charlie! It is new ol' school! Thanks for such a refeshing sound!

  4. Sam says:

Props to Charlie! He should've titled his album, "Last Man Standing" because who would've ever thought Charlie Wilson would outlast all the R&B singers of the late 70's and early 80's! He can deliver one-helluva-concert with or without the Gap Band that puts these new cats under the table! It is good to see a real brother,(pre-Neyo antics), who defies the music industry stereotype of singers in their 40's and 50's, that they can't deliver the hits! The old school cats like him, Morris Day, Frankie Beverly, Howard Hewitt and Peobo Bryson, put on shows and outsing these new cats half their age!
