Taylor Swift and Beyonce dominate the year's first Billboard 200 albums chart results this week.
Swift's "Fearless" rides high at no.1 for the fifth non-consecutive week with 90,000 copies while Beyonce's "I Am... Sasha Fierce" pulls in another 77,000 copies to land no.2.
Besides the reigning duo, Keyshia Cole and Jamie Foxx remain in the top 10 with their recent efforts "A Different Me" and "Intuition" which moved 54,000 and 45,000 copies respectively in the first active week of the year.
Britney Spears and Kanye West stayed on course as well landing no. 6 and no. 3 with "Circus" and "808s & Heartbreak".
Overall album sales were down this week and will be for the most part until new releases begin to hit shelves next week.
I think Diva is a song made a little too late. This song should've been on her B"Day album...the quintessence of her narcissism. Here, it doesn't fit. But then again, neither does the double album with the gimmick Sasha Fierce. This album is not reflective of natural progression in my opinion. It's just a blip on her radar; she just put this 'ish' out just to put it out. I'm hoping for a stronger album, a more mature album, an album where I don't think she's trying gimmicks or I don't SEE her trying to grab for other listeners; an album where she is just herself, being true to the R&B that birthed her career in the first place. Congrats on her album sales and her awesome record label and PR team.
With all the hate of recent towards, Beyonce her sales numbers don't reflect that! Although I am dissappointed with the lyrics of her new single, "Diva": her camp is doing something right-minus her recent horrific interveiws! There used to be a time when all divas could co-exist on the charts at the same time, (Madonna, Janet, Whitney, etc..)so I don't think she needs to tell us she is the "#1 chick in the game!" Word to all the other divas, if your record label would place million dollar funding behind you, then you too could have Beyonce 's chart success as well. So don't blame Beyonce and Taylor Swift for your records not selling because your particular label won't fund you properly!
