While we were busy singing his hit singles “Closer” and “Miss Independent,” Ne-Yo was busy getting closer to the big screen.
Putting his money where his mouth is, Ne-Yo surprisingly announced ‘Venice Beach,’ a film he’ll not only star in, but a film he’ll write the soundtrack for and executive produce. Instead of relying on a major studio, Ne-Yo put his own team together. In fact, he snagged Duane Adler, the same writer behind the box office hits ‘Save The Last Dance’ and ‘Step Up’ for the project.
"Venice" centers on an 18-year-old woman from Manhattan Beach, California, who loses her older, musically talented sister in a tragic car accident. In her grief, she suppresses her own singing talent until she meets a talented musician-singer from nearby Venice Beach. The budding romance gives her the confidence to launch her own music career, which is met with anger and resistance from his friends and her family.
Moving over to the ‘small screen,’ the “Year of the Gentleman” star is in talks to bring his very own cartoon to television. But hold on there kiddies – it’s an adult oriented cartoon called “What The Bear” !
Speaking candidly about his bear Ne Yo says “It’s a cartoon for adults, like Family Guy.”
‘What The Bear’ is slated to hit television in 2009.
— What The Bear and Venice Beach are just two of Ne-Yo’s most memorable moments in 2008.
