Power Moves 08: Bryan M Cox 'Beyond The Studio'

Known as one of music’s most valuable players, songwriter/producer Bryan Michael Cox stepped away from the studio for several projects in 2008.

After penning some of the year's top hits including Mariah Carey’s “I Stay In Love,” Cox stepped up to plate as executive producer of Monica’s upcoming album “Lessons Learned.” Speaking with Singersroom about the experience Cox said “It’s been an interesting experience for me. I’ve learned a lot from Clive and I’ve learned a lot from this process.”

The songwriter/producer’s journey with Monica was also chronicled on Atlanta’s Peachtree TV during the fall through a deal the songwriter and singer inked with the station. Monica: The Single, a show that highlighted Monica’s return to music after establishing a family life in the Atlanta area became both a television and internet sensation, garnering the attention of blogs, radio stations and podcasts.

Monica: The Single was however, just a stepping stone for the “Since You’ve Been Gone” producer. Cox also put together a deal for another reality series entitled ‘Studio Exposed,’ a comedic peek into his world amidst a cast of characters whose personal and private lives are centered in the studio.

While reality television ended up being a successful venture for the multi-tasking producer, Cox also found time to give back.

Teaming with Warner Chapel, Cox signed several songwriters to a publishing deal including Anna Clark and Kendrick Dean while also moving forward with his dreams to step into the classroom.

Inked late this year, Bryan Michael Cox will become a professor of sorts at Atlanta’s School of Audio Engineering. Cox tells Singersroom: “I begin lecturing in January on everything from  music production to the music business because I feel like the information is important. It’s important to give information back to people that really get it. I didn’t get a chance to get that when I was coming up.”
