Why Sammie Really Left Dallas Austin's Label, Plus Singer Talks About His New Album

R&B singer Sammie says he chose to leave Dallas Austin’s Rowdy Records due to a lack of attention to his album and related projects.
“Dallas is so gifted in so many other areas aside from music that I felt he didn’t have the time nor the energy to really put into me like I felt I should be, so I parted ways” says Sammie who spoke with Singersroom exclusively about his new album.
Fast at work on his as-yet-untitled third album, Sammie has chosen to go the independent route on this release which is already stacked with producers including Bryan Michael Cox, Adonis, Tha Cornaboyz, and Daron Jones of 112. “We’re still in the works [but] trying to get in with Nitti and trying to get a record from JD (Jermaine Dupri) this time. I haven’t worked with Jermaine since 2001.”
Partnering with industry veteran and manager Malcolm Lee, Sammie says his new imprint Empire Entertainment puts him on track to handle his business on stage as well as behind the scenes. “I definitely wanted to venture out to entrepreneurship and not just be one dimensional as an artist, but one day owning my own company and one day writing music for other artists as well. Having Empire is kind of that home, that source and that foundation for me to produce that.”
Despite calling his relationship with Rowdy Records a wrap, Sammie says he still has respect for Dallas Austin “We don’t speak on the regular, but like I said it’s no bad blood. If I do see him I’m definitely going to speak and be respectful and I believe it’s vice versa as well.”
