Ruben Studdard Ruben Studdard’s plans for a nightclub in Birmingham, Alabama may come to a stop after recent tax reports revealed more that $193,000 in unpaid taxes.

According to the state of Alabama liens have been placed on all property belonging to the American Idol winner for the unpaid taxes between 2003 and 2005 which amount to $171, 911 in federal taxes and $21,731 in state income taxes.

Studdard’s tax woes come after a series of rough times including being released from the label that issued both of his studio efforts and the recent halt in production of his last album “The Return” due to a settlement between SonyBMG and Louis Vuitton.

Despite his woes, Studdard has pushed forward with plans to open a nightclub in the Birmingham area next year. However, with news of the unpaid taxes, developers have become concerned that the ‘Velvet Teddybear’ may not be able to foot the bill – a ‘six figure investment' - for the highly anticipated club.

Studdard has "got some explaining to do," John Elkington the developer behind the entertainment district where the club would be built says."He may [however] be able to proceed with his involvement in the club."

In related news, Ruben Studdard is reportedly putting a new album together for release by the end of the year. A national tour is expected to follow the as-yet-untitled album.

Ruben Studdard’s last album “The Return” was released in October of 2006.

If the whole unpay taxes situation is true, then Ruben should pay off first before doing another cd. I sure hope this isn't true.
