Update: Teddy Riley’s Studio Fire Caused By Electrical Problem

He didn’t do it after all! According to The Virginia-Pilot, Teddy Riley’s studio went up in flames due to an electrical problem last month and not foul play.
As previously reported the R&B star and producer’s Future Records recording studio was destroyed on June 24th. After a few weeks of investigation foul play has been ruled out and the blaze has been blamed on electrical problems according to Virginia Beach Fire Chief David Hutcheson. The studio which was vacant at the time, was up for auction as a result of Riley’s financial woes but had failed to sell leading some to believe that foul play was involved.
According to the Virginia Pilot, the studio has been plagued by debt, Equitable, which holds a lien on the property, attempted to auction it off in May to help recoup a $700,000 loan Riley took out in 2005 and subsequently defaulted on. No one met the $500,000 opening bid.
The 3,300-square-foot studio opened in 1991. Riley produced songs there for his group Blackstreet as well as artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and Heavy D.
The city of Virginia Beach has offered to purchase the property.
