Bobby Valentino, Who was rumored to be dumped from Def Jam's roster, recently caught up with DJBooth.net to talk about his transition to become an independent artist. He told the website that he is no longer signed to Disturbing Tha Peace or Def Jam and that the split was amicable.
Valentino separated from his label three weeks before releasing his new EP "Come With Me" and several months before the planned release of his third studio album "Underground Love."
"The decision to leave was totally mine," said Valentino. "I sat down with Ludacris and Chaka Zulu, and I explained to them that it was time for me to venture out on my own. They had no problem with it; they are cool with it, no beef at all."
Furthermore Valentino said that it was time to move on because the years of being under the labels have given him the much-required experience that can propel him to go independent.
"I learned a lot, but everybody at DTP and Def Jam gave me the opportunity to kinda step out on faith and do my own thing,” Brown tells the site. “So that's my goal right now, is kinda trying to do my own thing. I went to college, I have a college degree, so I'm really tryin' to put all of that into effect. I'm really tryin' to be a businessman as well as an artist."
With hits like "Slow Down," "Tell Me," and "Anonymous," singer Bobby Valentino became a household name over the past three years.
His soon-to-be-released EP "Come With Me" is produced by Valentino himself with the assistance of Bill Jabar. The EP will be followed by his full-length album entitled "Underground Love," which will be dropped "probably August or early September, at the end of the summer."
The first single from the album would be "Your Smile" that features Lil Wayne and has been garnering airplays.

Ken Bourne needs to chill out. He's had two successful albums and was not dropped from Def Jam or DTP. He is pretty damn small but the man can sing and his songs are very nice. sounds like a HATER B8567to me.
What a load of rubbish the above article is. The talentless midget played a show-case in NY for the boss of Def Jam; he was his usual dreadful, out of tune self and was dropped. Def Jam realised that they had signed a complete turkey.
They probably took into account that he stole his name from a fabulous UK singer, songwriter and violinist. Check out www.bobbyvalentino.co.uk
They slipped up and referred to him as 'Brown' towards the end of the article. They must have Bobby Brown on the mind. I cant wait til his new music drops. I hope he made the right choice in the long run.
sexy Bobby
I think Bobby Valentino made the right move at the right time. DTP is mainly a Rap/Hip Hop label, and he (Bobby Valentino) would not get the much needed attention as an R&B artist. They would not push him harder then they'd push a hip hop artist. He can make it as an independent artists as long as his loving fans continue to support him.
Wow, this is pretty shocking but I have faith in you BV, so I know you're still gonna do your thang! Can't wait for the new album.
u preety
I don't know why they tried to dump him with his fine ass. Keep your head up Bobby and keep doing your thing with your sweet looking lips! Damn
