Unhappy R&B legend Aretha Franklin is not holding her breathe. On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Beyonce Knowles' sexified intro to Tina Turner at Sunday's Grammy Awards, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, "the queen."
"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."
E-mails to Knowles' publicist were not immediately returned.
In the first few seconds of Knowles' intro to Turner's performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the superstar R&B songstress changed her focus to Turner.
"There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent," said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. "Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen."
At a party later that night, Knowles called Turner her "ultimate icon."
Still, Franklin ended her brief criticism on a gracious note, thanking the Grammys and the voting academy and saying, "love to Beyonce anyway."
Known for such hits as "Respect" and "Chain of Fools," Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet "Never Gonna Break My Faith" with Mary J. Blige.

...sad...just sad...-.- I hate beyonce and everything...but still...NOT newsworthy.
i m pretty sure that beyone did not write those words the preople who se up the grammies wrote tat
I think Beyonce is nothing but a gimmic, she is really and alto who's not the best singer. beyonce fools the audience by havinf extrodinary orchestration or backgounds to get the hype. If you want a real singer, then i think you should choose singer and performers like "G" stated earlier. Aretha franklin (quuen of Soul) , Albertina Walker (quuen of gospel), Patti Labelle, Dorthy Norwood, Gladys Knight, Dianna Ross, Chaka Kahn, Anita Baker, Fantasia, Jennifer hudson, Kim Burrel and Yolanda adams Dont be fooled by her father either, he cant sing and dont know what singing is. I must also agree that Aretha was to sing in the inuguration
Ok, now beyonce disrespected the Jackson family as well. Arethat comes from the seed of a great Minister...discernment is everything. Oh, and the Queen is thought highly of our President. While Beyonce is offering her voice. Aretha was invited. Beauty is from the inside. So being a fluzzy designing fluzzy clothes for people especially children will only get you respect with few. Michelle will hopefully never dress the girls in dereon. Beyonce get some class. And be careful of the words you say about others first Aretha now the Jacksons...
beyonce has an over exposed career for nothing i mean she looks no beter than the other girls has a weak voice that is helped by expensive recording studios. i understood beetle mania but this is strange
firstly tina aint sexy age is catching up with her and aretha darling came to the scene in the early 50's tina in the 60's aretha struggled for black freedom in the civil movmnt sista ree also intodruced over dubbing okay said enough no one can sing like and aerent most queens unattractive and bossy
I think that Beyonce shouldn't have used her personal thoughts when annousing that Tina Turner was the queen. Everyone Knows that Aretha Franklin is Queen of Soul and has all the elegance that Beyonce described about Tina Turner. If Tina Turna was suppose to be queen, Then the music industry would have made her queen years ago (Before Beyonce was born). Aretha Franklin is still the queen of soul regardless of what Beyonce says. I bet Beyonce would not stand a chance singing with Patti Labelle, Chaka Kahn, Aretha Franklin, Albertina Walker (queen of gospel), Dorothy Norwood, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, or any of the legendary singers. In some ways, Beyonce reminds me of Whitney Houston. Don't want to give credit to people that have more fame than them. I also would like to say to those who try to put the blame on aretha, Beyonce has been in the Muisc Industry long enough to know what to say when its comes to the public. But anyway, Mrs franklin showed maturity and excused it.
I think that Beyonce should have stop putting her personal thoughts into it and give credit where crdit is due. Everyone knows Aretha Franklina and Tina Turna. If Tina was suppose to be the queen, then should would have been it years before. Aretha is still the Queen of Soul regardless of what Beyonce says. I bet Beyonce would not stand a chance singing with Patti Labellie, Chaka Kahn, Aretha Franklin, Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, Gladys Knight, Diana Ross, or any of the old singers thats good. In some ways, Beyonce reminds me of Whitney Houston. Don't want to give credit to people that have more fame than them.
Looking at it just from Aretha's statement, it does seem a bit petty. But, i just know that this is another 'black vs. black" bout booked by the press. You just know someone rushed back stage and whispered in Aretha's ear.... The press is just startin s***... and like sheeple, you all buy into it. REAL SAD! All that said, Aretha is a bit too arrogant 4 me. Aretha doesn't work with people, people work with Aretha to hear her tell it- in the case of mary j. blige dueting with her.
Who really cares, someone need to grow up alittle more, as long as beyonce was look mighty fine thats all that matters.
