Former Blackstreet Member Chauncey Hannibal Locked Up for Grand Larceny

Chauncey Hannibal, a former member of Blackstreet, has been extradited from California to Hampton Roads and is being held at the Virginia Beach City Jail.

A spokesman for the jail said that Hannibal, 39, was extradited on charges of grand larceny, desertion or non-support of a spouse or children, and failure to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge.

Virginia Beach police spokesman Adam Bernstein said the grand larceny charge stems from the foreclosure and subsequent sale of Hannibal's house in December 2006. According to the police report, Hannibal intially refused to move out, and when he did, he took approximately $58,000 worth of counters, sinks, fixtures and other objects from the home.

Bernstein said the charge of failure to appear pertains to court dates related to money Hannibal owes. Bernstein said Hannibal owes $58,000 in back taxes and approximately $47,000 in child support.

The arrest warrants were sworn out last month, and when Hannibal was stopped in Los Angeles for a traffic violation last week, the officers found that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Bernstein said Hannibal did not fight extradition, and a Virginia Beach police officer flew to California and brought Hannibal back on Monday.

He is being held without bond.

Hannibal and his wife, Aisha, are both New Jersey natives, but the couple relocated to Hampton Roads in the mid-1990s while Hannibal was working with Blackstreet founder Teddy Riley at his Virginia Beach studio. The Hannibals operated their own corporation, 2-Face Productions, out of Virginia Beach. He is currently associated with Busta Rhymes' Flipmode label.
