AkonR&B singer Akon pleaded not guilty today (Dec. 3) in Fishkill, N.Y., to criminal charges filed against him after he threw a fan off the stage at a June concert.

The “Sorry, Blame It On Me” singer was released on his own accord following his brief court appearance in the Dutchess County, New York. He was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment, a violation.

As reported here, Akon was charged after a fan said she suffered a concussion when a teenage boy he threw off the stage fell on her during the June 3 concert at the local minor league baseball stadium.

The case was adjourned until January.

Billboard reports that a town justice told Akon that his lawyer can stand in for him at future court appearances and he does not have to appear. Akon did not comment as he left the courthouse.

"It was never Akon's intention to violate the law," the singer's Manhattan lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said in a written statement released to the media. "This unfortunate incident was a spontaneous reaction during a live concert that Akon deeply regrets."

  2. BORICUA says:

I SAW THE VIDEO AND YEAH IT LOOKED LIKE AKON PULLED HIM UP BUT THE BOY COULDA PULLED AWAY UNLESS HE THOUGHT THAT AKON WOULD GIVE HIM 15 MINUTES OF FAME ON THE STAGE. CELEBRITIES SHOULD ALWAYS BE AND STAY HUMBLE AND NOT LET FAME ENLARGE THEIR HEADS AND MAKE THEM THINK THEY'RE BAD ASS ON STAGE. AKON SHOULDA LET HIS BODY GUARDS HANDLE THE BOY AND REMEMBER THAT HE HAS PLENTY OF UNDERAGE FANS AS WELL.

  3. tiq says:

that was uncalled for... he should have let security handle it

  4. BECKY says:

WELL I DID HAPPEN TO SEE THE VIDEO AND THE GUY DIDNT GET ON STAGE, AKON PULLED HIM UP AND THEN THREW HIM OFF. HE HAD NO RIGHT TO DO THAT, AND HE HURT ANOTHER PERSON IN THE PROCESS. STARS THINK THEY CAN DO CERTAIN STUFF AND GET AWAY WITH IT TOO. I LIKE AKONS MUSIC AND EVERYTHING BUT WAT HE DID WAS WRONG AND I THINK HE SHOULD TAKE WATEVER HE GETS!

  5. YuN says:

he did throw the boy offstage, u can see the video on youtube... and he called the boy to get up on stage, cuz he threw something at him.

  6. Jessica says:

i don't really think he did it. he sings to well for that the boy should not have never been up there.

  7. dasha says:

hey my sister love your songs her name is Mia

  8. Doket0 says:

naw he threw that kid off of his shoulder, i seen that s***. the kid should of never jumped on stage though us artists have to protect ourselves in any situation where someone jumps on stage not knowing their intention. Same happened at a 50 cent concert, while he's performing this kis jumps on the stage and as soon as he jumps on stage Tony Yayo pushes his ass off the stage. Who knows how he landed or where but thats something you dont do as a fan. They should let him off because he had to do this for his protection sort of a self-defence case. Doket out ace

  9. Lisa says:

I just wanna say,....Did Akon really push the fan off stage? I love his music. I didn't think he would actually do something like that.
