After six years of waiting, R&B singer Maxwell finally gives fans a peek of his highly anticipated new album. Today (Sept. 7), Maxwell uploaded a snippet of "Pretty Wings" on his MySpace site, the singer's first communication about new music since announcing his next album, "Black Summer's Night," on the site in October 2006.
Columbia Records music exec Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua tells Billboard he expects the album, originally due in February 2007, next year. "Maxwell's still working with Sade's band, his tried-and-true team," he says. "He took some time off and now he's ready."
"He's recorded so much material that he's got a couple of albums done," he continues. "So, he might be going out on the road touring for this album soon. I won't say the album will drop first-quarter 2008, but [next] summer sounds good."
Maxwell's last album, "Now," was released in 2001 and has sold more than 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Maxwell was to release a studio album on Columbia Records in February 2007 under the title 'Black Summers' Night'. On the morning of February 14, 2007, Maxwell posted a blog on his MySpace page, explaining the delay. He also posted an audio message apologizing to fans for the delay.
In a blog posted to Maxwell's MySpace page on July 25, 2007, it states that Maxwell is still working on his upcoming album. He goes on to thank his loyal fans for being patient.

I am still on cloud 9. I saw Maxwell perform last night at the Venue last night. He put it down and then some. I love his energy, his soulful voice and his emotion. That brotha can sing his ass off. It is rare that artist sound like themselves live in concert compared to when u hear them on the radio, but he did. These new artisits need to learn a lesson or two about real music. Thank you Maxwell sooooo much for deciding to come back, you couldn't have picked a better time because music is suffering. I am grateful and thank ful to have seen you rock the house. Do the damn thing!!! If the scene becomes tooo much again do what u gotta do your fans will forever be here. Now if we can get Lauryn Hill and D'Angelo back it would be awesome.

Cougar here! Marvin Gaye is and always will be my #1 but the first time I heard Maxwell I knew he'd share that spot with Marvin. When I listen to Maxwell I know water is about to break. He can led me and I'm sure many other cougar's to the river because we can hear the sensual baptism coming. Maxwell's raw pure notes go straight to your most private self. His songs are infused with something greater than a passing pleasure, genuine joy. Maxwell's harmonies are heaven sent. His smallest vocal nuances become fixed inside our heads. I saw Maxwell also in Oakland on October 29th and it was amazing and phenomenol. He is such an advance artist and is genius when it comes to incorporating sensuality in his music. He speaks especially to all women and hopefully can show men, how to connect with a woman. Luckily I was blessed with him holding my hand while on stage. I can't wait till his new album and to see him live in concert again. One Love : )

honestly, im really upset that its taking so long to get this album out. like mentioned before, there are so many artists who are messing up the soul side of music. pretty soon, there will be no REAL fans; our kids will be listening to rediculous songs that have no meaning and if there's nuthing else in our ear, we'll eventually result to the same. No doubt Maxwell's a phenomenal artist,therefore he should embrace his fans instead of just leaving them out in the cold with a wet match like he did with "pretty Wings" snippet.

I really can't wait until it get's released. If you need any backup singers. I got you. Valentine's Eve is a perfect time for the album to drop but what would be even better is me sharing Valentine's Day with you and you new album playing in the background. I think you should have a singing contest with the prize being a night with you the day after your album releases. Talking about a good way of promoting the album. lol...I couldn't help it. I can't wait for the album to come out! I wish his label company would let the "FANS" decide on if we like the cd. Just listening to the snippet of "Pretty Wings" makes me want to buy one cd for the car, one for the house, one for the cd player for the gym, one for the office. His voice is so amazing! Women are not the only one who are fans of him. I have a few male (straight) friends that can't wait for the album to come out too.
