Have you ever had a time in your life where you asked yourself what your purpose in life might be? Have you ever felt like you weren't where you needed to be emotionally or mentally, and felt the need to despair? We all have. I know there were many times where I felt unfulfilled and felt like I didn't know what my calling or life goal was supposed to be. I mean I had goals, but I didn't know if they were for my greater purpose or good. Maybe you've been fired or you are stuck in a dead-end job. Maybe your love life is stagnant. Maybe you just feel like you are going through your days doing the same things and feeling endless monotony. It doesn't take striking it rich to make a difference in your life. There is a reason for the saying, "The best things in life are free." Here are a few tips for getting on track to finding your purpose. Take it from someone who has been there.
1) Find your spirit: Spirituality is good for the soul. Whether you ascribe to Christianity, Buddhism, or Islam, spirituality can be good for finding your greater purpose. Maybe you are not sure what to believe in, but you want to believe in something. Faith is good for the soul in the sense that it teaches you optimism. Optimism is key when you're going through hard times in life, and so is faith. Whether you meditate or just pray on hands and knees, feeling at one with a greater being can bring clarity.
2) Helping others: It's easy to feel like you can't really make a difference in the world when you don't try. When you volunteer your time to help others, you will feel like you are making a contribution that can't be minimized or taken away. Whatever you choose, helping others via mentoring or volunteering is a great way to feel like you have a purpose.
I had dreams. When I was younger I always dreamed of being a model or actor. I had all the ambition, looks and drive. I never had anyone to help me pursue my dreams. My mom was a single mother and my childhood was not all roses.

I actually did find my purpose and that was to help our children. My life growing up wasn't rosy and when the opportunity to become a youth mentor literally fell into my lap, it blew my mind away. I've never felt more at peace with a decision in my life than I was when I said yes to this opportunity. It's the greatest blessing to be bestowed on me and I have no regrets.

Wow, I have been going through this feeling of finding my purpose in life for awhile. I volunteer, set career goals (although right now I am at a dead end job), feel as though my love life is never going anywhere special and even am trying to find my spirituality. For some reason I am still at a loss. Being older and more experienced with life you would think I found my purpose- not the case so far. Knowing I am not alone helps. This article assures me I am taking the right steps. And maybe I just need to realize what I am doing right now is all that I should for right now. Its not really about finding yourself but more to create yourself.
