It's no secret that ethnically diverse sitcoms have been dying a slow death. But BET may just redeem itself by snapping up the controversially canceled CW distributed 'The Game'.
In a recent TV Guide story, sources close to the network claimed that everything possible is being done to secure a fourth season of the Pooch Hall (pictured), Tia Mowry, Hosea Sanchez, and Wendy Raquel Robinson featured show.
"BET is doing everything it can to acquire the rights to Mara Brock Akil's The Game," says the source.
If the network, which received a serious backlash from its 2009 BET Awards ceremony last week, is able to pick up the series it would be seen as step in the right direction. In fact, a direction that some have been waiting for the reality and music dominated network to take for years.
While BET has long been a staple source for African Americans over the years, there has long been criticism over its lack of positive and educational programming. In the last five years alone educational and community based programs have received the axe, the most disturbing to young adults was 'Teen Summit'. Yes, the network is strong when it comes to providing entertainment professionals with an outlet to promote and engage the community with their projects however, it has in some respects joined MTV and VH1 with a staple diet of reality series.
Nonetheless, the network cannot be fully blamed due to viewers. After all, viewers determine what stays and in the long run, what goes.
At this time BET is not commenting on 'The Game' related talks however, it has greenlit re-runs of the half hour hit like it did previously with 'Girlfriends,' 'The Jamie Foxx Show' and 'The Wayans Brothers'.
With a fourth season potentially on the horizon, BET could very well land its first major sitcom in years and of course one that a good amount of viewers will watch. The question is however, will it stick and most important will 'The Game' open doors for additional BET scripted series ?

I think that this will be a great opportunity for BET. Not only will this up BET" viewers but it will also help BET to diversify their game. Even though BET shares many similarities to MTV and VH1, this will allow BET to start a new trend for its brand. Every since I was little I have known that BET was the channel that represented me and once they pick up this sitcom it will hold true to its mission to inform, support and educate its people. We have to stand up and say that even though you are trying to knock us down we know that we have the power to do whatever is necessary to obtain our goal.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save the show... we need more positive shows for us African Americans!!!!
BET please pick up the game, this is a very good show and it should not be discriminated against because its a black show.
PLEASE pick up THE GAME BET!!!! So many people LOVE this show and can relate to it. This is The Game is the best black sitcom since Martin and Girl Friends in my opinion and they are gone off the air... I really think that TV is starting to becaome nothing but reality TV but people still do like to watch sitcoms some refuse to watch reality tv. All I am saying is the writer and the actors and actresses of The Game really make tv worth watching so Please BET pick up the show and PLEASE do not have it airing on a Friday night if you do pick it up because nobody is sitting in the house on a Friday night the show needs to be played between Monday and Thursday...preferably Wednesday. BET I am begging PLEASE!!!!!
The african american community is in desperate need of a sitcom designed especially for us. BET has been in the dumps for years. If they decide to pick up The Game, it will restore my faith in the network. Let's all pray that someone over there has a little coommon sense.
I think the T.V. community is definitely at a loss without this flavorful, diverse, and intellignet sitcom.
In addition I am beyond disgusted that every show that displays positive and real situations that do not lead to enriching the negative stereotypes about African Americans, is snatched off the air.

Yes I do think that BET would benefit from picking up The Game. This is an amazing, well-written, and excellently acted show and BET, along with the rest of television, is greatly lacking on shows like it. The Game deserves to be picked up and dedicated fans like myself and the other millions who have made their dedication known deserve to see this story continue.
Please keep The Game....I love this sitcom, the average person can relate to the show in some way. However, I think Friday night cause the show to receive low ratings. I think another night would increase ratings.

We need BET to look out for a show like this because we don't have any other black shows to watch anymore, especially ones with realistic storylines and great acting. BET please pickup the game. This is my favorite show. I watch it ever day, morning and evening. I am tired of seeing reality tv. We need to see tv shows. I haven't been this interested in a tv show since Martin and A Different world. So please BET pickup the game.
