It’s that time of year for the 2015 BET Honors, the seventh annual awards ceremony saluting achievements and greatness of those in various industries.
This year, the event took place in Washington D.C. on Saturday night (Jan. 24) Usher and Kanye West were musical honorees; Usher received the Musical Arts Award and West received the Visionary Award. Kanye’s acceptance speech offered a few laughs when he addressed his marriage to Kim K. “They say white girls go out and get a rich black dude. But my wife has dated broke black dudes. So it’s not about the money,” he said.
The event was hosted by Wayne Brady and performances included Trey Songz (who sang for Usher’s tribute “Nice and Slow”), Patti LaBelle, K. Michelle, and Mary J. Blige.
Other 2015 honorees include actress Phylicia Rashad, Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art, Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole who received the Education Award, and John W. Thompson, Chairman of Microsoft and CEO of Virtual Instruments.
BET Honors 2015 will air on Feb. 23 at 9 p.m.
