Mary J. Blige stale? Is that even possible? According to the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul, that is how she began to feel about her career after songs like "Be Without You," "The Living Proof" and "Mr. Wrong."
Appearing on "On-Air with Ryan Seacrest" this week, Blige explained why she flew to London for her soon to be released album, "The London Sessions".
"The intent was just to have a complete new environment along with the new thought process that I had along with my career. I just felt like I was getting stale in my own career as an artist, and I needed to completely do something different," Blige told On-Air. "So when I started feeling like that, I kind of just discovered Disclosure‘s ['F for U'], on VEVO. I discovered it and I completely lost my mind over how good it felt. Like, ‘Who are these kids?’ And I felt compelled to be on the remix. Whatever the remix is … The idea was to go to London and do an EP with them when I discovered that I sound good singing club music."
The result of her trip is a 12-song album featuring contributions from both Sam Smith and Emeli Sande.
"The London Sessions" is due for release Nov. 24 in the UK and Dec. 2 in the U.S.
