The sixth annual ASCAP “Women Behind the Music” series, which honors and recognizes outstanding women in the music community, kicked off last night in two big cities — New York and Los Angeles.
In New York City, GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, celebrity DJ JaKissa “DJ KISS” Taylor-Semple, and Sam Selolwane, Vice President of Promotions at RCA were recognized for their commitment to the business of music. The Los Angeles chapter recognized singer, songwriter, and reality TV star K. Michelle, Billboard’s Senior Editor, Gail Mitchell, and Motown Record’s Vice President of Creative Relations, Myisha Brooks
During the event, sponsored by MYX Fusions Moscato, event honorees held empowerment discussions and Q&As, educating and encouraging women in all facets of the business.
Jazmine Sullivan closed out the NY event by giving event-goers a soulful treat of her new single “Forever Don’t Last.”
