Thanks to her latest release, "The Sea," Corinne Bailey Rae is one of several Mercury Prize nominees.
Joining a list of nominees that includes rapper Dizzee Rascal, Bailey Rae follows Estelle, who was previously nominated, in vying for one of Europe's top prizes.
The winner of the £20,000 prize will be announced on 7 September.
Previous winners have included Speech Debelle, Elbow, Klaxons and Arctic Monkeys.
The prize is open to UK and Irish acts who have released albums over the past year.
